What is a Webex Soft Phone?
A Webex Soft Phone is your work phone on your computer or mobile device. Instead of making and receiving calls using only a desk phone, you can use the app Webex to use your work phone number anywhere you have an internet connection.
With a soft phone, you can:
- Make and receive work calls using your laptop, or smartphone.
- Use your same work phone number and extension.
- Answer calls even when you're away from your desk.
- Transfer calls, place callers on hold, and check voicemail.
- Use a headset for hands-free calling.
Why would I use a webex soft phone?
A soft phone is helpful if you:
- Work from home or another location.
- Travel frequently.
- Move between offices or meeting rooms.
- Prefer using a headset instead of a desk phone.
- Need to answer calls while working on your computer.
Do I still need my desk phone?
That depends on your role.
Many employees choose to use both a desk phone and the Webex soft phone. Both use the same phone number, so you can answer incoming calls from whichever device is most convenient.
Example:
If someone calls your office number while you're working from home, your Webex app will ring just like your desk phone would. You can answer the call on your computer or mobile device, and the caller won't know the difference.
